The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Swiss Arabian blends Arabian artistry with Swiss precision, the name tells the whole story. The house draws on deep expertise in warm spices and resinous bases, translating these traditions into contemporary fragrance. Opulence of Dubai is part of that tradition, a fragrance designed to translate Dubai's gilded excess into something wearable. Dubai as a fragrance brief is a high-wire act. The city does not do subtle, it builds towers that pierce clouds and islands shaped like palms. Perfumer Ilias Ermenidis had to translate that excess into something that could live on skin rather than sit on a shelf. The result is a fragrance that mirrors the city's confidence, its willingness to be bold, its refusal to apologize for wanting more.
Each note in Opulence of Dubai was selected not just for its individual character but for how it interacts with the others. The ginger in the opening is not the same ginger found in fresh food, it is softer, more aromatic, balanced by bergamot's citrus clarity. The chocolate in the heart is real, rich cocoa, not a synthetic approximation, and it pairs with rose because both share a certain lushness that works together. The drydown was designed as a complete unit. Bourbon vanilla and amber provide warmth and sweetness, but cedarwood, coffee, and the earthy notes of vetyvalone and cypriol prevent the base from becoming a simple vanilla bomb.
The evolution
The scent journey begins with the ginger and bergamot opening, a bright and sparkling first impression that immediately signals confidence. Elemi resin adds aromatic depth beneath the citrus surface, creating a layered opening that evolves on its own before the heart arrives. The chocolate and rose emerge as the heart develops, a rich floral combination that brings warmth without becoming cloying. Cardamom and pink pepper temper the sweetness, adding complexity that rewards close attention. As the hours pass, the drydown unfolds with bourbon vanilla at its center, supported by amber's golden warmth and the woody depth of cedarwood. Coffee adds an unexpected bitter edge that keeps the sweetness in check. Vetyvalone and cypriol ground the composition with earthy, almost mineral darkness. Frankincense arrives last, a smoky, resinous note that transforms the scent into something ritualistic and long-lasting.
Cultural impact
Part of Swiss Arabian's Cities collection, Opulence of Dubai fills a need for luxurious oriental compositions that remain accessible. The fragrance draws on the house's strength in warm spices and resinous bases while adding a contemporary gourmand edge through the chocolate note. It projects without being aggressive, its presence felt without needing to announce itself. The blend of Damask rose and chocolate creates a sophisticated conversation between indulgence and elegance, while cardamom, pink pepper, and elemi keep the composition grounded and prevent it from becoming precious.
