Why it exists.
The beginning
Joy With You entered the Shiro lineup in 2022, composed by Ryoko Akatsu as part of the house's growing SHIRO PERFUME collection. The name reads like an invitation rather than a description. Joy as something shared, something you bring with you. Akatsu built the composition around that feeling. A bouquet of hyacinth, jasmine, and lily of the valley at the center, opened with bergamot, lemon, and apricot, then set on a base of amber, musk, and sandalwood for warmth. It's floral perfume with a clear idea behind it: the fragrance should feel as natural as the moment you find yourself smiling without reason.
What sets the composition apart is how Shiro anchors a bright floral with ingredients tied to its home country. Across the broader collection, the house draws on Japanese-grown botanicals, and that sensibility carries into how Akatsu balances its citrus and green facets. The opening avoids the candy-sweet register that many citrus-florals fall into. Bergamot and lemon bring the lift, apricot adds a soft fruitiness, and the whole effect feels washed and clear rather than syrupy.
The evolution
The first fifteen minutes are pure lift. Bergamot and lemon cut through, apricot sweetens without cloying, and the citrus reads almost like cold water on the tongue. Then the florals arrive. Hyacinth leads with its green, almost watery quality, jasmine adds warmth, and lily of the valley brings that soft, soapy sweetness. The blend reads airy and fresh rather than heavy or indolic. The bouquet stays balanced through the heart, with jasmine and lily of the valley trading softness while hyacinth holds the green edge. After about two hours the base takes over. Sandalwood brings a soft, creamy woodiness. Musk wraps everything in a skin-like warmth, and amber adds a quiet resinous glow.
