The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Living My Story arrived in 2025 as part of Shiro's evolving perfume line, composed by Ryoko Akatsu. The name reads as an invitation. Not to nostalgia, not to memory, but to the act of living as the subject of your own narrative rather than the supporting character in someone else's. The official copy describes orange blossom taking center stage amid citrus and sweet floral notes, with lavender and jasmine adding depth, mandarin providing the opening lift. The mandarin comes through with a bright, zesty clarity, the kind of citrus that feels like peeling the fruit under direct sunlight. The orange blossom sits forward from the start, honeyed but never cloying, carrying a soft indolic warmth that reads as confident rather than demure.
The structural choice here is restraint within a familiar family. White florals risk reading as bridal, of sweetness without backbone. What Akatsu does is avoid that trap by keeping the orange blossom from drifting into pure confection. The lavender pulls the orange blossom out of its default sweetness, adding an herbal edge that keeps the composition grounded. The blackcurrant note in the opening carries a darker tartness that wakes up the citrus and keeps the fruit from feeling one-dimensional.
The evolution
The first minutes are almost entirely fruit. Mandarin brightness, then blackcurrant's darker tartness cutting through with a sharpness that is audible almost before it's wearable. The florals arrive gradually, orange blossom first with its honeyed sweetness, then jasmine swelling underneath as a creamy, almost narcotic undertone. Lavender runs through as a green-cool line that keeps the sweetness honest, never letting the composition tip into sugary territory. As the fragrance wears, the florals soften into something warmer, the amber begins to surface, and the vanilla sweetens without becoming gourmand. The musk settles close to skin, creating a soft, almost powdery intimacy that feels like warmth rather than projection. In the later stages, what remains is a warm amber-vanilla haze with a ghost of orange blossom still legible underneath, a quiet trace of where the composition began.
Cultural impact
Within Shiro's catalogue, Living My Story sits in the brighter, more expressive register. This 2025 release reaches into citrus-floral territory with a composition that reads as polished and approachable. Wearers gravitate toward it as a daily scent that reads cleanly in professional and casual settings alike. The fruit-floral-musky structure gives it a versatility that works across seasons, though it leans naturally toward warmer months when the mandarin's brightness feels most alive.
