The Story
Why it exists.
Nishane was founded in Istanbul in 2012 by Mert Guzel and Murat Katran with the ambition of bottling the city's unique position as a bridge between East and West. Their concentrations have consistently pushed beyond conventional niche boundaries. For Meant To Be Seen, perfumer Jordi Fernandez worked from an emotional brief: the sensation of existing without recognition, of being present yet overlooked. This is not a fragrance for the loud room. It is for the extended conversation where someone finally sees what was always there.

The Beginning
Nishane was founded in Istanbul in 2012 by Mert Guzel and Murat Katran with the ambition of bottling the city's unique position as a bridge between East and West. Their concentrations have consistently pushed beyond conventional niche boundaries. For Meant To Be Seen, perfumer Jordi Fernandez worked from an emotional brief: the sensation of existing without recognition, of being present yet overlooked. This is not a fragrance for the loud room. It is for the extended conversation where someone finally sees what was always there.
The note selection reflects Fernandez's intention to build a fragrance that accumulates presence rather than announces it. Violet provides the initial powdery softness without sweetness. Bergamot offers clarity without sharpness. Orris root serves as the emotional core, its warmth existing near the skin rather than projecting outward. Musk and Moxalone amplify intimacy. The drydown brings together ambrettolide, sandalwood, sesame, and Akigalawood in a configuration that rewards those who stay close. The sesame note is particularly intentional, introducing an unexpected savory dimension that prevents the drydown from following more conventional niche paths.
The Evolution
The fragrance begins its narrative with violet and bergamot, a combination that reads as simultaneously soft and alert. There is no fanfare in this opening. As bergamot recedes, orris root takes command of the heart, joined by musk and Moxalone. The effect feels like presence without imposition. The drydown then deepens considerably. Ambrettolide introduces warmth, sandalwood adds cream, sesame unexpectedly grounds the composition with a nutty, almost toasted quality, and Akigalawood lends the structural dryness that prevents the base from becoming heavy. The arc moves from quiet brightness through warm complexity to sustained, intimate depth.
Cultural Impact
Meant To Be Seen exists within Nishane's collection, positioned among fragrances that emphasize closeness and intimacy. Wearers describe it as the fragrance equivalent of quiet confidence, not performing, just present. The combination of iris, sesame, and soft animalics places it in a register that speaks to those who appreciate nuanced perfumery while remaining approachable enough for newcomers. Its sillage keeps it intimate; its longevity keeps it memorable.

Meant To Be Seen sounds like the moment after the party ends, warm amber lighting, a quiet room, skin still warm from the evening. The iris-sesame character reads as late-night jazz piano: unhurried, intimate, meant for two people talking in low voices. The animalic warmth beneath adds a texture like vinyl crackle, analog and present.
