What makes Edman structurally interesting is the tension between its fruity-sharp top and its dense, resinous-woody base. Pineapple, peach, and rhubarb together create a fruit accord that reads less like dessert and more like fresh-cut fruit under direct light, tart, juicy, and almost sharp enough to cut through the heavier materials waiting underneath. The heart layers eucalyptus and mint against gardenia, jasmine, violet, and rose, giving the floral middle a cooling, slightly medicinal edge rather than the soft powdery quality these flowers usually deliver.

The evolution

The first ten minutes belong entirely to the fruit. Pineapple lands first, bright and acidic, almost like biting into something underripe. Rhubarb sharpens the edges, peach softens the blow, and bergamot lifts the whole thing into something that reads as fresh rather than sweet. Within twenty minutes, the eucalyptus and mint arrive like a cool draft through an open window, cutting the fruit with something green and slightly clinical. The florals build underneath, gardenia and jasmine giving body, violet lending a powdery shadow. By the second hour, the fruit is essentially gone, and what remains is the base working its way up: sandalwood and cedarwood providing a warm wooden scaffold, tonka bean adding a soft almond sweetness, vanilla deepening into something almost edible, patchouli grounding everything with its earthy weight. Cypriol sits beneath all of this, lending a faint smokiness that keeps the drydown from going too creamy. After four to six hours, the scent settles into a close skin scent, mostly sandalwood, vanilla, and a whisper of musk.
