Why it exists.
The beginning
Summer arrived in 2021 as a single-named composition within Sense Dubai's catalog. The perfumer credited is Saed al Abbass. Sense Dubai is known for numbering its fragrances, a catalog that runs from Sense Dubai 1 through 12 and beyond, with each bottle identified by a numeral on the label. Summer stands out as one of the few releases identified by a word rather than a number. What follows from that word is a composition that opens with caraway, cardamom, and neroli at the top, moves through a heart of Damask rose, tuberose, and ylang-ylang, and settles into a base of cedar and patchouli.
The interesting choice here is the opening: caraway, cardamom, and neroli sitting together at the top. Caraway brings something almost savory, a cool anise edge that most summer florals skip entirely. Cardamom doubles down with warmth and a faint green bite. Then the neroli arrives and pulls everything back toward something bright and clean before the heart opens. It's a deliberate contradiction, spice that almost cooks itself before the neroli calls the heat off.
The evolution
The opening belongs to the spices. Caraway and cardamom lead, with neroli threading brightness through both. The neroli eventually fades, and that's when the florals step forward. Damask rose, tuberose, and ylang-ylang take over the middle stretch, with the tuberose giving the composition weight, almost a creamy density, while the rose keeps it from feeling heavy. Ylang-ylang adds that banana-like sweetness that rounds the edges. As the composition moves on, the cedar and patchouli settle in underneath. The cedar reads dry and slightly pencil-shaving-sharp. The patchouli is clean here, not earthy or dirty, more of a shadow than a floor. Eventually the florals recede and the woody base carries the rest.
Cultural impact
Summer is an oud-free composition from a house based in the UAE, which sets it apart from the heavier amber and resin profiles the city is often associated with. The release focuses on Damask rose, tuberose, and ylang-ylang at the heart, supported by caraway, cardamom, and neroli at the top, and cedar and patchouli at the base. That makes it a warm, floral composition with a spiced entry and a woody finish rather than a resin-driven or oud-led one. Wears well for someone drawn to rose-forward compositions with structure, particularly if you want the creaminess of tuberose tempered by something drier and greener at the edges.
