The beginning
101 arrived in 2021 as part of Sense Dubai's expansion beyond the original numbered catalog. Saed al Abbass composed this one, and the numerical name strips away any narrative scaffolding: there is no poetic title, no story printed on the box, no mythology to memorize. The composition leans floral-fruity with a gourmand twist, placing pineapple and galbanum at the top before folding into a heart of linden blossom, jasmine, mimosa, peony, and rose. It's an extroverted structure, sweet but built on real floral architecture, not just sugar. The pineapple hits first with that sharp tropical sweetness, and galbanum slices through it with a bitter, green, almost metallic edge that keeps the opening from collapsing into simple fruit.
The galbanum-pineapple top is the first move that sets the tone. Galbanum brings a green, almost bitter sharpness that prevents the pineapple from sliding into generic tropical territory. The two notes push against each other, one bright and sweet, the other cool and resinous, creating an opening that feels alive rather than flat. In the heart, mimosa and linden blossom add a honeyed, slightly powdery quality that softens the jasmine and peony without dulling them. The florals blend into something almost creamy, a shared texture that smooths the rougher edges of the top.
The evolution
On skin, 101 opens with a burst of pineapple and citrus, grapefruit and mandarin adding juiciness while galbanum cuts through with that sharp green edge. The opening feels almost like a fruit salad with attitude, bright and slightly unruly. The first thirty minutes belong to this combination, the pineapple's tropical sweetness tempered by galbanum's bitterness and lifted by the citrus oils. Then the heart settles in: jasmine and mimosa bring warmth, linden blossom adds that honeyed softness, and the peony keeps things light. Rose threads through subtly, never taking center stage. The florals don't compete; they layer, each one adding a different facet of softness. The mimosa's powder, the jasmine's cream, the linden's honey, the peony's cool, the rose's quiet presence.

101 sits within Sense Dubai's 2021 expansion, a release that added new compositions to the house's growing catalog. The cotton candy base and pineapple-galbanum top read as deliberate choices: the sweetness never overwhelms because the green, bitter galbanum and the earthy base notes provide counterbalance throughout the wear. The gourmand-floral profile combines accessible sweetness with enough structural complexity to hold attention across the full drydown.
