The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Be Bold landed in 2018, and the name wasn't decorative. The perfumer, MG Gulcicek of dsm-firmenich, composed it around a tension: a Turkish rose at full volume, held in place by dark fruits, cumin's earthy warmth, and the deep resinous pull of frankincense. The brand's official framing, elegance personified and timeless resonance, earns its weight here because the structure is genuinely classical. Roses and patchouli have anchored perfumery for over a century, a lineage of materials that perfume collectors recognize instantly. What changes is the fruit-spiced curtain drawn across the front and the musk-ambroxan resolution underneath. The raspberry and blackcurrant give the opening a dark, almost wine-stained sweetness that never reads as candy.
What makes Be Bold worth attention is the way the top notes refuse to behave like a polite opening. Cumin is a divisive material, and Regalien clearly knows it: paired with raspberry and blackcurrant, the spice steers toward jammy depth rather than savory sweat. The fruit and the cumin lock together in a way that feels almost edible, dark berry preserves seasoned with something warm and unfamiliar. The raspberry contributes a jammy, slightly seedy sweetness, while the blackcurrant adds a tart, almost leafy green edge that keeps the accord from collapsing into jam.
The evolution
The first minutes are loud. Raspberry and grape sweetness push forward, undercut by cumin's dry, almost animal warmth. Blackcurrant adds a tart green edge that keeps the opening from going syrupy. The fruit-cumin accord hits immediately, a dark, spiced sweetness that announces itself without apology. Grape contributes a darker, more bruised-fruit note than the raspberry alone would provide, while the blackcurrant's bud-like bitterness adds dimension. Then the transition happens fast. Rose absolute enters within the first quarter hour and immediately thickens the composition, bringing a honeyed, almost fermented floral quality. The rose doesn't smell like a fresh-cut garden flower. It smells like petals pressed in a drawer, dense and slightly turned.
Cultural impact
Be Bold sits at the more assertive end of the brand's catalogue, a composition that doesn't moderate its materials for easy wearability. The Turkish rose at the heart, paired with frankincense and patchouli, places the fragrance firmly in conversation with the rose-resinous traditions that have defined Middle Eastern-influenced perfumery for decades. The ambroxan in the base adds a contemporary shimmer that keeps the composition from reading as purely classical, bridging old-world materials with modern clean-musk conventions.
