The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Mystic arrived in 2018 from MG Gulcicek and dsm-firmenich, a collaboration between a Turkish perfumer and an ingredient supplier. The composition opens with cedar, sage, and bergamot, a trio that creates immediate aromatic freshness before transitioning to lavender and rosemary. These herbal heart notes bring a warmer, more rounded quality that deepens as the fragrance develops. The base then takes over, providing the foundation that anchors everything that came before. It's a fragrance that moves through its own story in stages, each one earning the next as the composition unfolds and reveals new facets of its character.
The cedar-sage opening is the first signal that this isn't a citrus-forward daytime scent. Cedar needles carry a sharp, almost resinous quality, the smell of woodsmoke before the fire catches. Sage adds a Mediterranean green note that pairs naturally with it, creating an aromatic foundation that feels both wild and intentional. Bergamot arrives to lighten the load just enough, giving the opening a brief citrus clarity before the heart takes over. Together, these four materials establish something grounded and herbal rather than bright or playful.
The evolution
The opening minutes hit with cedar and sage, a sharp, aromatic bite that feels like walking into a field rather than a perfumery. Bergamot softens the edges within the first minute, a brief citrus clarity before the herbal heart begins to build. Around the 20-minute mark, the lavender and rosemary emerge, transforming the composition from green and sharp to warm and full. The transition is not dramatic, it's a slow deepening, like afternoon light moving across a hillside. By the second hour, the base takes over: sandalwood and oud arriving together, their warmth settling close to the skin rather than projecting outward. Tonka bean adds a faint sweetness underneath, almost imperceptible until the drydown's final hours when that subtle sweetness becomes more perceptible. White musk and amber complete the picture, a soft, lingering warmth that stays intimate and close.
Cultural impact
Mystic offers a herbal-woody character that leans into lavender and cedar rather than the typical marine or citrus directions. The composition balances aromatic warmth with oud depth, creating something that feels both grounded and sophisticated. Its sillage carries well, making it well-suited for evening wear, while the versatile woody herbal profile keeps it approachable across seasons. For those seeking a fragrance with herbal character and lasting presence without relying on freshness or smoke, Mystic delivers a compelling option.
