The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Potion Love arrived in 2021 from Police, the Italian brand better known for angular sunglasses and street-earned confidence than conventional perfumery. This release was composed by Sophie Truitard and paired in a dual-fragrance launch with Potion Power for him. The campaign featured Italian influencers Cristina Buccino and Francesco Maria Monte, anchoring the scent in a contemporary Italian cultural moment rather than heritage nostalgia. Police built this fragrance for the woman who doesn't wait for permission.
What sets Potion Love apart is the interplay between its marine opening and creamy white floral heart. Bergamot and grapefruit provide bright, tart freshness, but the sea salt keeps that citrus grounded rather than cartoonish. The real move is the tuberose, rich, almost milky, the kind that fills a room without trying. Orange blossom adds a waxy, slightly salty quality that elevates it beyond standard fruity-floral territory. Rose sits quietly in the background, a soft counterpoint rather than a competing star.
The evolution
The opening hits hard and fast. Bergamot, grapefruit, and a hit of marine salt, bright, tart, immediate. Within minutes the citrus settles and the florals take over. Tuberose dominates, creamy and slightly sweet, with orange blossom providing that characteristic waxy depth. The rose appears as a quiet undertone, keeping the florals from getting too heavy. By the second hour the composition has softened but deepened. Peach emerges more prominently, blending with amber to create a warm, almost skin-like quality. The white musk keeps everything intimate and close. The marine note fades entirely by hour three, leaving behind a clean, warm trail that doesn't project so much as invite. On dry skin the longevity holds for most of a workday, six to eight hours before it becomes a skin scent. The sillage never reaches room-filling; it's the kind of fragrance that someone leaning in close will notice and appreciate, while the rest of the room remains undisturbed.
Cultural impact
Potion Love occupies a specific niche, white floral richness without the punishing sillage of some tuberose fragrances. It's not trying to compete with niche concentration or designer accessibility. Instead, it occupies the middle ground that Police has always claimed: confident, Italian, and unapologetically for people who don't need approval. The 2021 launch placed it alongside a male counterpart, Potion Power, suggesting the brand sees this as a lifestyle play rather than a single-fragrance moment.
