The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The Police Potion line arrived in 2021 as a pair, Love For Her and Power For Him, both signed by perfumer Sophie Truitard. The name says potion, which suggests transformation, something almost alchemical. A spell you wear. The brief seems to have been straightforward: luminous femininity with an edge, a fragrance that glows without apology. The 2021 launch timing places it squarely in a market that had grown tired of safe florals, a moment when boldness was making a quiet comeback.
What makes this composition interesting is how the marine and citrus elements don't compete with the florals, they amplify them. The sea notes create a translucent backdrop that lets tuberose read cleaner, brighter, more insistent. Bergamot and grapefruit lift the opening into something that reads as morning light rather than garden fullness. Then the heart takes over and doesn't let go. The Ambrarome in the base is doing quiet work too, a warm amber that prevents the fruity notes from reading as juvenile, adding a skin-warm quality that grounds the whole thing.
The evolution
The opening hits fast, citrus and sea salt arriving together in a rush that reads as bright and almost effervescent. Within the first twenty minutes, the florals begin their takeover. Tuberose isn't subtle here; it arrives creamy, white, and confident, with rose and orange blossom filling in the gaps. This heart phase dominates for hours, easily the longest stage of the wear. The drydown arrives gradually, peach and white musk settling into something that smells like skin warmed by sun. Not synthetic. Not powdery. Just warm, close, and intimate. On most skin types, the full arc runs 6-8 hours, with the final stage lasting longest and staying closest to the body.
Cultural impact
Released in 2021, Potion Love For Her entered a crowded market of citrus-floral fragrances with a proposition that leaned into boldness rather than restraint. Community reception has been positive, wearers consistently note the longevity and the confident tuberose heart. The advertising campaign featured Italian influencers Cristina Buccino and Francesco Maria Monte, positioning the fragrance within a contemporary Italian cultural moment.
