The beginning
Sicilia in the name wasn't decorative. Scorza, the peel, the rind, the part between the fruit and the world, is where the best smell lives. Sébastien Martin built this fragrance around that idea: not the juice, not the blossom, but the zest itself. Released in 2015, part of the Berdoues Grands Crus collection, Scorza di Sicilia translates a specific Mediterranean moment into something you could wear to a Tuesday meeting and still remember at dinner.
The pyramid is almost aggressively simple. Three notes. No filler, no flourish. Calabrian citrus up top does what citrus does, sharp, immediate, alive, then cedes the stage to Virginia cedar, which arrives cool and woody and keeps things interesting for the middle act. Java vetiver anchors the drydown with that earthy, slightly smoky character that vetiver lovers seek out. Each phase arrives on time, executes cleanly, and exits before overstaying. The economy is the point.
The evolution
The opening announces itself sharply, Calabrian lemon at full volume, bright and citrusy and impossible to ignore for those first few minutes. Cedar arrives quickly, not to suppress the citrus but to reshape it, softening the edges into something cooler, woodier. By hour two, the vetiver takes over, earthy, mineral, intimate. The sillage never builds. It stays close, wrapping around the skin rather than announcing to the room. The last traces, hours later, are vetiver's quiet signature: green, clean, private.

Part of the Grands Crus collection, this fragrance occupies a specific space in the Berdoues catalog: citrus-woody, restrained, and unapologetically simple.
