The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Nathalie Koobus built 001 around that flash of morning light through a kitchen window, bergamot first, then the rush of neroli. The opening is bright and citrusy, the bergamot lending a crisp edge that softens quickly into something warmer. Orange blossom takes over the heart, its sweet floralcy balanced by the green, slightly bitter nuance of petitgrain. A base of soft musk keeps everything grounded, creating a lingering warmth that stays close to the skin. Not trying to say anything new. Just saying it well.
What makes this work is restraint. Koobus reaches for materials you'd find in any citrus-floral cologne, bergamot, neroli, orange blossom, but the proportioning keeps everything in balance. The citrus opens precise and clean. The florals don't crowd. The musk doesn't overwhelm. It's the difference between a formula and a composition: one tells you what to expect, the other makes you want to find out.
The evolution
Bergamot and citron hit the skin first, a sharp, sparkling opener that lasts about fifteen minutes. Then the hand-off: neroli and petitgrain arrive together, the green-bitter quality of petitgrain cutting the sweetness of neroli before lavender softens everything in the heart. The base is where 001 earns its name. Orange blossom sits close to the skin, and the musk underneath stretches the wear. Four to six hours, intimate sillage, present to the wearer, noticed by anyone who leans in.
Cultural impact
001 fits the collection's intent: accessible, straightforward, wearable. It appeals to someone who wants to understand what they're spraying without decoding marketing language. Clean design, clean composition, the fragrance and the brand share the same visual logic. The numbered system offers an alternative to the story-heavy approach of traditional perfumery. Instead of selling a fantasy, it invites the wearer to engage with the actual smell. The approach has resonated in a market where consumers increasingly demand honesty about what they are applying to their skin.
