The beginning
Volare Forever arrived in 2016 from Oriflame, the beauty house that has shaped a broad range of accessible fragrances over the years. The Volare line reads as a romance series, and Forever sits at its most tender end. Perfumer Vincent Schaller shaped it around a very particular kind of softness: the flushed sweetness of roses mixed with sugared fruit, the kind of scent that feels like a keepsake rather than a statement. Schaller's approach here is patient and deliberate, working with a palette of raspberry, pink grapefruit, jasmine, Taif rose, white rose, candied almond, white musk, and cashmere wood to build something that wears beautifully without requiring a perfumery vocabulary to appreciate.
Taif rose is the interesting choice here, and it anchors the heart of the composition in a way that keeps the raspberry and grapefruit from losing their shape. The rose has a slightly honeyed warmth that adds gravity to the brighter fruit notes, grounding them before they tip into anything too sugary. The candied almond at the base is doing structural work too, pulling the white musk and cashmere wood into a soft, marzipan-like warmth that holds everything together. The way these ingredients interact is one of the more satisfying things about wearing the fragrance.
The evolution
The first 15 minutes are all sparkle. Raspberry and pink grapefruit hit bright and fizzy, like biting into a cold piece of fruit candy.
