The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
011 Treewalk launched in 2021 as part of Michael Wong's One Day project, a line that names places and atmospheric moments in fragrance form. Where other entries in the catalog carry place names, Taipei and Amsterdam and Kyoto among them, Treewalk names something quieter. Not a destination. A direction. The act of moving through trees until the noise falls away. The fragrance sits as the collection's mossy counterweight, pulling inward rather than outward. It asks what a place smells like before people named it, before maps or monikers or memories got attached. What remains is something green and close, a wearable suggestion of bark and undergrowth and the hush that settles when you step off the path and let the canopy close overhead.
The composition opens without ceremony, no bright citrus to wake the nose, no recognizable floral to set expectations. Instead, three middle notes do almost all of the heavy lifting, thyme for that sharp almost-mentholated lift, lavender pulling everything into herbal softness, and cypress giving the green a woody backbone from the very first spritz. The choice to lead with green notes sets the tone immediately. Cypress carries a resinous weight that reads as bark and sap rather than freshly cut grass.
The evolution
The opening minutes are sharp and close, almost mentholated, as thyme and lavender do their work while cypress underpins everything with a green resin feel. This is the crushed-grass moment, and it reads accurately on skin. As the composition settles, patchouli arrives in full. Not the incense-heavy variety. A damp, earthy version, the kind that smells like turned soil after a long rain. Cedar and sandalwood settle underneath, warming the composition without sweetening it, their woody tones threading through the herbal top to create depth. The lavender never fully leaves. It threads through the drydown like a faint hum, keeping the whole thing from going too dark, maintaining a herbal clarity even as the base notes take over. Over time the projection pulls in close, settling into an intimate radius where someone leaning in to talk catches it before anyone across the table does.
Cultural impact
Within One Day's catalog, Treewalk is the outlier that points away from civilization entirely. It wears well on the kind of person who reaches for green-leaning compositions, patchouli-forward releases, anything with cypress as a throughline. That relative anonymity is part of the appeal. It rewards attention without demanding it, offering a green herbal composition that commits fully to its concept rather than hedging toward safer territory.
