The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Botica 214 sits inside O Boticário's curated apothecary line. Violeta & Sândalo was composed in 2019 by Emilie Coppermann and Eurico Mazzini. The pairing here does what the collection's name implies, mixing the medicinal green snap of violet leaf with the creamy depth of Australian sandalwood. The violet leaf contributes that sharp, cool, almost mentholated quality, the part of the flower that smells less like a bouquet and more like a crushed stem caught between your fingers on a damp morning. Against it, the sandalwood unfolds with its characteristic creaminess, a warmth that feels round and full rather than sharp or woody in the dry, pencil-shaving sense.
What's unusual here is the accord structure. Violet leaf and sandalwood together can read as either powdery or austere depending on what surrounds them, and the choice of supporting notes shapes everything. The leather note in the base does something specific: it gives the powdery violet a counterweight, adding structure so the composition doesn't drift into something purely cosmetic or soft. The leather here reads supple rather than aggressive, more like suede than saddle, and it sits low enough that it doesn't compete with the florals above it.
The evolution
On skin, the first thirty minutes feel like two fragrances competing for attention. The top notes arrive almost green and metallic, white pepper prickling over kiwi and bergamot in a way that reads more like crushed leaves than fruit. The pear is there but it stays back, providing sweetness without ever becoming the point. Around the twenty-minute mark, the violet leaf settles in, and the composition starts to feel less bright and more contemplative. French violet leaf carries that watery coolness, amplified here by cyclamen and osmanthus, which add a faint apricot undertone beneath the powder. Gardenia and peony round out the heart, adding body without sweetness. Then the leather arrives, somewhere underneath, giving the floral accord something to lean against. The sandalwood follows, creamy and Australian in character, with that warm, almost milky quality.
Cultural impact
Botica 214 sits within O Boticário's apothecary-inspired collection, a curated line of fragrances that draw on traditional pharmacy and botanical aesthetics. Violeta & Sândalo, with its violet leaf and sandalwood pairing, fits squarely into that apothecary register, the kind of composition that evokes glass jars and dried botanicals without literally recreating them in the bottle. The leather note running through the base adds a harder edge, pushing the violet away from something purely soft or cosmetic and toward something with more architectural structure.
