The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Christian Bousidan spent time in Havana, and Puro is what happened when that experience became a fragrance. What Puro promises is the aromatic character of rum, Cuban cigars, and the humid warmth of a Caribbean evening. The opening is an announcement: rum absolute, mint, and key lime arriving together like the first sip of something worth savoring. The heart deepens into cactus sap and cinnamon, translating the green spiciness of a Havana market. By the base, tobacco and mahogany anchor everything into a composition with lasting presence. The blend moves from bright, boozy opening through warm spice into a dry, woody finish that feels cohesive rather than fragmented.
The note pyramid for Puro brings together three top notes that work in concert: rum provides the body, mint the lift, key lime the brightness. Cactus sap is the unusual heart material, adding a succulent green quality that bridges the boozy opening and the woody base. Vetiver appears in the drydown, carrying a smoky, earthy character that distinguishes it from other vetiver sources. The overall composition balances tobacco with woody and aromatic elements.
The evolution
The first minutes are all Havana. Rum absolute hits the skin with an immediate boozy warmth, mint following close behind to keep it from becoming heavy. Key lime adds a citrus sharpness that prevents the opening from feeling like dessert. The booziness gradually recedes as cactus sap with cinnamon takes over, creating a warm, slightly green spiciness reminiscent of walking into a room where someone just burned a cinnamon stick. The drydown is where Puro settles into its character. Tobacco and mahogany arrive, creating the smell of a pipe tobacco lover's library. Vetiver grounds everything with an earthy finish that provides lasting presence. The scent evolves across the wear, moving from bright citrus and mint into warm spice before arriving at woody dryness.
Cultural impact
Puro features a rum and tobacco combination that brings together boozy warmth and dry woody depth. The scent opens with rum absolute, mint, and key lime, then transitions through cactus sap and cinnamon before settling into tobacco and mahogany. This composition offers aromatic complexity with a dry finish rather than sweet confectionery notes. The vetiver in the base grounds the blend with earthy character.
