The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Fórmula do Humor is part of Natura's Humor collection. The name translates roughly to "Mood Formula", a nod to the way fragrance shifts with the wearer and the moment. For this masculine expression, Verônica Kato constructed a tension between sharp opening notes and a warm, lingering base, creating something that changes character throughout the day rather than announcing itself all at once. Released in 2011, the composition uses natural ingredients shaped into something that feels contemporary rather than nostalgic. The contrast between crisp top notes and a rich foundation gives the scent a built-in arc, a story that unfolds as hours pass rather than presenting itself all at once.
The combination of mint, black pepper, and citrus as an opening is sharp, almost medicinal in its clarity. But the transition into hazelnut and jasmine is where this fragrance earns attention. Hazelnut isn't common in masculine perfumery; it brings a toasted, slightly sweet warmth that reads as both soft and unexpected. The violet leaf grounds what could become sweetness, keeping the heart in the green-floral register. The base is where Oriental Fougère conventions show: amber, vetiver, and patchouli create warmth, while guaiacol introduces a faint smoky, almost leathery quality. Cedar and sandalwood add structure, and musk brings the animalic warmth that closes the composition.
The evolution
The opening arrives with immediate intention. Citrus and mint hit first, bright and cooling, followed by black and pink pepper that add a clean spice without heat. The impression is of something crisp, almost clinical, the kind of freshness that reads as precise rather than casual. For the next few hours, the scent shifts. Violet leaf appears with its green, ozonic character, cutting through the citrus warmth and adding an aromatic lift. Hazelnut and jasmine emerge as the quiet middle, softer, rounder, a texture rather than a statement. The brightness doesn't disappear, but it deepens, becomes less immediate. By the fourth hour, the drydown asserts itself. Amber and woody notes take over, with vetiver and patchouli adding earth and a faint smokiness. Sandalwood and cedar provide the structure, and musk holds everything close to the skin.
Cultural impact
Fórmula do Humor debuted in 2011 with a distinct point of view on masculine scent. The blend of fresh, almost ozonic opening notes with a warm Oriental Fougère drydown offers something different from typical releases in the men’s fragrance space. The hazelnut note in the heart stands out as an unexpected material in masculine compositions, adding a soft, textured warmth that evolves throughout wear. It brings a dimension of softness and complexity that many fragrances in this category skip over entirely. The drydown reinforces this sensibility, with amber and woody notes creating warmth without heaviness.
