The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Rêve Romantique arrived as part of NANA.M's lineup in 2015, one of eight fragrances gathered under a single French word, "rêve." That word anchors the collection conceptually, and Romantique was framed by the brand as an invitation to fuse with nature rather than observe it from a distance. Céline Ripert, named as the perfumer, composed the fragrance with florals gathered from near and far to build a composition that reads less like a perfume and more like a private reverie. The release sat within a France-rooted project, and the eight-fragrance structure suggests an intentional breadth from the outset, each scent given room to interpret its own corner of the dream-inspired concept without overlapping the others.
What makes the structure worth lingering over is the tension between opulence and restraint. Mimosa, broom, and everlasting bring a yellow-floral density that could easily overwhelm, yet sambac jasmine and cassia flower cut through with cooler clarity, keeping the heart from collapsing under its own weight. The base relies on hay distilled for twelve hours to extract its warmest amber register, a deliberate technical choice that grounds the airy florals in something tactile and lasting.
The evolution
The first ten minutes belong to green mandarin and apricot, a quick brightening before the florals arrive and take over. Mimosa leads the heart, golden and almost edible, with cassia threading a warm-spiced seam through jasmine sambac's white sweetness. By the second hour, the yellow florals have begun to soften, and something drier surfaces: hay, immortelle, the resinous edge of balsam fir pulling things back from sweetness. The cacao pod stays quiet through most of the wear, a shadow rather than a statement, until the drydown when it warms into amber and powdery musk. What lingers past hour five is that powdery, slightly sun-baked quality: immortelle's maple-syrup sweetness thinned into musk, a trace of fir that never fully disappears. On fabric the next morning, the hay note comes forward, dried and golden, like pollen caught in a folded scarf.
Cultural impact
Rêve Romantique sits within a collection of eight fragrances all released in 2015, each carrying the shared word "rêve" as a conceptual thread. That word does quiet work across the lineup, tying together scents that otherwise have little in common at the note level, and giving the project a recognizable identity even before a single bottle is opened. Within that shared framework, Romantique holds its own place, and the brand copy treats each fragrance as a separate interpretation rather than a variation on one template.
