The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Blaze arrived as part of Mykonos's original OG Collection, the lineup that introduced the house's earliest men's colognes and women's perfumes. The name suggests fire, but the composition leans the other direction: a woody aquatic that reads more like coastline than campfire. The salty, herbal twist gives the scent a pulled-back warmth, the kind of cool breeze that carries a thread of greenery rather than smoke. Bright marine citrus lifts the opening, sliced with grapefruit and mandarin, before the base drops into something mossier and more shadowed, a structural move that catches you off guard. Bay leaf threads through the heart with a green, herbal pull, while jasmine adds just enough white floral sweetness to keep the composition from going austere.
The interesting move here is the tension between aquatic and earth. Marine notes, grapefruit, and mandarin orange open with a saline, almost ozonic clarity that most woody fragrances skip entirely. But the base pulls hard in the other direction: ambergris, guaiac wood, oakmoss, and patchouli form a foundation that feels mineral, damp, and ancient. Bay leaf in the heart acts as the bridge, green and herbal enough to connect citrus to moss. The jasmine adds just enough white floral sweetness to keep the composition from collapsing into pure austerity.
The evolution
The first ten minutes are all salt and citrus. Grapefruit and mandarin hit bright, sharpened by marine notes that read as ocean spray on hot stone. Bay leaf arrives quickly, pulling the composition greener and more herbal before jasmine shows up with a subtle white floral lift. That middle phase runs warm and aromatic, almost like coastal vegetation in midday heat. By the two-hour mark, the top is mostly gone and guaiac wood takes over, smoky and dense. Oakmoss and patchouli settle underneath, giving the late stages a damp, forest-floor quality that the opening never hinted at. The ambergris holds the whole thing together, adding a skin-like warmth that keeps the drydown from feeling cold. Six hours in, what remains is mostly guaiac and patchouli, close to the skin and surprisingly intimate. The next morning, a faint trace of moss and wood lingers on fabric.
Cultural impact
Blaze sits within Mykonos's original OG Collection, a woody aquatic that helped define how the house approached freshness with weight underneath. Its structure, bright, accessible openings layered over darker, more textured bases, is one the house returns to often, and Blaze reads as an early articulation of that formula. The fragrance has drawn attention from wearers who want complexity that doesn't require patience at the top, something easy to wear from the first spray that gradually reveals more character.
