Why it exists.
The beginning
Suède de Suède grew out of Fredrik Dalman's Sweden, the perfumer's memory of home shaped into scent. The name itself plays on the French word for suede, the material that anchors the composition, and the country that inspired it. Launched in 2017, this fragrance translates the tactile softness of Swedish leather gloves, the kind that warm the hands without weight, into something wearable on skin. The fruit elements, cloudberry and strawberry leaf, bring a tartness and green herbal lift that keeps the leather from reading as heavy or brooding. The opening carries a brisk chill, almost like stepping outside into cold air, and the suede at the heart feels closer to skin than to saddle: pliant, warmed through, slightly animalic in a comforting rather than aggressive way.
Cloudberry's tart, faintly resinous sweetness bridges the bright opening and the darker suede heart without ever reading as gourmand. Strawberry leaf adds a green, almost herbal bitterness that keeps the fruit from tipping into jam. Together they form a Nordic berry facet that softens what could otherwise have been a straight leather composition. The cloudberry carries a subtle jamminess that hints at preserves rather than fresh fruit, with a resinous undertone that recalls birch sap or pine needles warmed by sun.
The evolution
The first ten minutes are the loudest this fragrance ever gets. Cloudberry and strawberry hit bright and tart, almost candied, with a quick flicker of Sichuan pepper buzzing underneath. Then the berries pull back, not disappearing so much as being absorbed, and the suede accord takes over. This is the heart of the composition: soft, slightly animalic thanks to the castoreum, but rounded by osmanthus's apricot-skin warmth. The leather here isn't the cracked-horse saddle of traditional masculine perfumery. It's supple. Lived-in. The cedar and patchouli anchor it without darkening it, and the musk keeps everything close to the body rather than pushing outward. Six hours in, what's left is a faint milky suede, warm and indistinct, like the ghost of a glove left on a chair. The next morning on fabric, it's nearly gone, just a suggestion of skin and cedar.

Suède de Suède arrived as a softer, more intimate take on suede and leather, one grounded in fruit and tactile warmth rather than smoke or darkness. The composition offers an alternative reading of the leather family, one that feels closer to skin and to season than to saddle and stable. Its cloudberry-and-strawberry-leaf opening brings a Nordic-inflected brightness that distinguishes it from more conventional leather constructions, while the suede heart retains the supple, napped character associated with the material itself.
