Fredrik Dalman
Fredrik Dalman grew up in Stockholm with a palate sharpened by wine studies, a background that later fed his scent work. He earned his diploma at the Grasse Institute of Perfumery, then moved to London to join L'Artisan Parfumeur. There he met Bertrand Duchaufour, whose guidance shaped his approach to raw materials. After a stint in Paris, Fredrik returned to Sweden and accepted the role of in-house perfumer for Maison di Orio, where he launched the celebrated Mellifera. In 2022 he founded TuffTuff Studio, a boutique lab that offers bespoke scent design, workshops and collaborations with brands and interior projects. Across each chapter he has kept a single aim: to translate memory and place into transparent, wearable compositions.

How Fredrik composes
Fredrik builds his formulas like a chef plating a dish. He often begins with a crystal-clear base - cedar, sandalwood, or ambergris - that grounds the composition. From there he adds a bright accent, such as citrus zest or a burst of pink pepper, to create contrast. He loves to weave in honey, propolis or a bee-derived note, a nod to his early fascination with pollinators. When a scent needs depth, he introduces smoked birch tar or a whisper of incense, never overwhelming the core. Throughout he monitors the evolution of the blend, adjusting ratios until the perfume settles into a balanced, linear arc.

Fredrik treats fragrance as a conversation between skin and surroundings. He starts each brief by mapping the emotion or location a client wants to capture, then selects a handful of ingredients that can speak directly. He favors natural extracts that retain their original character - honey-laden nectars, green leaves, warm woods - while he does not shy away from synthetics that sharpen focus. A sommelier’s discipline teaches him to layer notes with the same patience he applies to tasting wine. The result feels honest, immediate, and anchored in a moment he can recall at a glance.
