A house, in its own words
Pantomime opened its doors in early 2023 when Dutch designer Jeroen Oude Sogtoen partnered with perfumer Fredrik Dalman. The duo announced the brand on social media, emphasizing a theatrical approach to fragrance. Their first release, Act 1, arrived later that year and quickly attracted attention from niche‑fragrance collectors. Within months, Act 2, Act 3, Act 4 and Act 5 followed, each presented as a separate “scene” in a larger olfactory play. In 2024 the house introduced a limited‑run “Act 5 Reprise,” a reinterpretation that used a higher concentration of the original’s heart notes. The momentum continued with Act 6 in 2025, marking the brand’s first foray into a higher‑strength format. Throughout its short history, Pantomime has remained independent, avoiding large‑scale distribution in favor of direct‑to‑consumer sales and select boutique placements. The brand’s consistent release schedule and its commitment to a narrative framework have positioned it as a distinct voice among contemporary niche houses. Pantomime views fragrance as a momentary performance rather than a static accessory. The founders describe their work as an attempt to capture a fleeting emotion in a bottle, using the language of theater to structure each composition. They avoid generic marketing slogans, instead letting the scent speak for itself. The brand values transparency in ingredient sourcing, preferring natural extracts when they support the story of a particular act. Sustainability informs their choices, from recyclable packaging to responsible harvesting of raw materials. By naming each perfume after a numbered act, Pantomime invites wearers to imagine a sequence, encouraging personal interpretation rather than prescribing a fixed mood. The house also limits each release to a set number of bottles, reinforcing the idea that a scent, like a performance, is meant to be experienced in a specific moment.
