Why it exists.
The beginning
Filicudi takes its name from a small island, and in Marcoccia's 2023 release it reads as exactly that: an island afternoon compressed into a juice that smells like sun-warmed peel and salt air, not a postcard but a recollection. Andrea Marcoccia returned to that geography with this composition, translating personal landscapes into scent through his solo creative practice. The brand's catalogue runs from warm vanillas to bright citrus groves, and Filicudi sits firmly in the luminous half of that range, a member of the Pure collection built around clean, uncomplicated structures that let the individual ingredients register without competing for attention.
What makes Filicudi interesting structurally is the load it puts on citrus and white floral in the top and heart, then anchors everything with vanilla bean rather than a more conventional woody-musk base. Here, vanilla bean does the stabilizing work in both the heart and the base, appearing twice in the pyramid. That repetition gives the drydown a skin-like warmth that keeps the whole composition from reading as a fleeting cologne that evaporates before dinner. The interplay between the jasmine and the vanilla is where the composition earns its keep.
The evolution
The first ten minutes are almost aggressive in their brightness. Green apple, lemon, orange, grapefruit, raspberry all at once, with lily of the valley softening the edges just enough to keep it from reading as a fruit salad. It's a confident opening, the kind that fills a small room if you're standing still. After about thirty minutes, the jasmine and iris push forward. The citrus hasn't vanished, but it's been demoted to supporting player. There's a powdery edge from the iris that starts to give the composition more weight, and the vanilla bean appears here for the first time, lending a creamy warmth that makes the florals feel less like a bouquet and more like a lotion. Patchouli lurks underneath, barely perceptible on its own but essential for keeping the heart from floating away. By the two-hour mark, you're firmly in the drydown: white musk and amber take over, the vanilla deepens, and what remains is a soft, warm, slightly sweet skin scent. The citrus is gone entirely by this point, which is the one real tradeoff.

Filicudi sits within Marcoccia's Pure collection, a grouping that gathers some of the house's brighter, cleaner compositions. As a 2023 release, it represents Marcoccia's continued commitment to translating personal landscapes and Mediterranean sensibility into wearable form, and it shows how the house treats place and memory as compositional material rather than as marketing language.
