The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Maison Louis Marie was founded in 2014 in Los Angeles, drawing on a French botanical lineage that stretches back generations. The brand positions itself around clean, non-toxic perfume making, with sustainability and minimalist design as core values. Antidris Cassis arrived the same year, when perfumer Marie du Petit Thouars set out to translate the crisp bite of fresh cassis into a modern, unisex fragrance. Her challenge was capturing the fruit's tart intensity without drifting into synthetic sweetness or heavy-handed interpretation. The solution paired blackcurrant with bergamot for brightness and black pepper for structure, creating an opening that registers immediately with precision and purpose.
The note philosophy here centers on restraint. Blackcurrant provides tart, almost biting fruitiness without veering into candy territory. Bergamot offers clean citrus that elevates rather than dilutes the berry's character. Black pepper adds a subtle heat that brings dimensionality without making the opening feel heavy or spicy-dominant. The white rose heart acts as a deliberate counterweight, bringing softness to the bold opening and preparing the wearer for the grounded base. Oakmoss and musk in the drydown close the loop, delivering warmth and earthiness that makes the scent feel complete.
The evolution
The opening does not soften, the blackcurrant arrives with its full tart character, followed swiftly by bergamot's citrus snap and a measured pinch of black pepper. This combination establishes a crisp, energetic tone that commands attention in the first thirty minutes. The heart phase introduces white rose, which arrives quietly as the fruit notes begin to recede, offering floral grace that prevents the fragrance from becoming one-dimensional. The rose does not overpower or dominate; it simply smooths the transition. The drydown shifts the composition toward oakmoss, where an earthy, mossy quality takes hold alongside the warmth of musk and the faint sweetness of tonka bean. By this point, the fragrance has moved from sharp brightness to intimate closeness, revealing itself effortlessly.
Cultural impact
Since its 2014 debut, Antidris Cassis has been noted for its bright cassis opening and elegant rose heart, earning a place among modern fruity‑floral niche fans. Wearers often cite its balanced spice‑fruit contrast as a fresh alternative to sweeter berry scents, making it a go‑to for those seeking a crisp, garden‑inspired aroma that feels both contemporary and timeless.
