It belongs to The Divinatory Waters collection and was developed in collaboration with Sens Unique, a partnership that places patchouli at the center of attention rather than treating it as a decorative afterthought. The name itself, Diabolo, signals mischief. Pair it with patchouli, a material carrying centuries of ritual weight, and the brief writes itself: a troubled duality of what attracts and what holds. The official positioning reads genderless, woody, medium intensity, aimed at a wearer unconcerned with convention. On skin, the composition opens with a spark of citrus and a wet, syrupy pour of grenadine, a collision that feels almost impish against the dark, leafy density of the patchouli waiting underneath.
The opening is where this composition makes its argument. Grenadine and bright citruses meet patchouli head-on, and the tension between juicy, almost cocktail-like sweetness and the raw, earthy depth of Indonesian patchouli creates an immediate charge. Neither element submits to the other. The grenadine reads as dark, almost medicinal at first, while the citrus pulls sharp and fleeting, like a flash of light before the storm.
The evolution
The opening is bright and almost edible. Grenadine gives a sticky, pomegranate-adjacent sweetness, propped up by citruses that flash briefly before the patchouli starts pressing in. Within the first 20 minutes the composition tilts. Indonesian patchouli asserts its sovereignty, earth-rich and slightly bitter, as jasmine and violet push in close. Orris adds a powdery hush, and the spicy notes thrum underneath like a low-grade current. By the second hour the florals have largely withdrawn, ceded to cypriol and cedarwood that grind the scent darker. The base is where Diabolo settles into its real posture: moss, musk, vanilla, and animalic notes create a humid, skin-warm drydown with a faint gourmand sweetness underneath, less a dessert than the memory of one. The drydown lingers close, lasting through a workday and past it. On fabric the next morning, the patchouli is still talking.
