The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Iris has been the quiet cornerstone of perfumery for centuries, used by the Romans, beloved by couturiers, distilled into the powdery absolute that smells like violet candies and fresh earth. For Claire Liégent's 2022 composition, the choice of iris as the namesake was deliberate. Not as a single dominant note, but as a promise, that powdery delicacy would anchor something with real presence. The 'bouquet' in the name signals intention: this isn't one flower. It's a gathering.
What makes the composition distinctive is its refusal to let the iris float away into abstraction. The heart bursts with iris petals, but aquatic notes thread through to keep the air feeling fresh rather than dusty. Cedar needles add a green, almost coniferous undertone that grounds the florals in something more structural than sweet. Ylang-ylang and magnolia broaden the floral field without softening it. The result is a powdery fragrance that doesn't retreat into nostalgia, it modernizes the genre through freshness and restraint.
The evolution
The opening arrives with immediate brightness, apple and mandarin orange giving the citrus notes something fruitier to play against. Bergamot and a hint of black pepper create a crisp, almost sparkling entrance that lasts maybe thirty minutes before the flowers take over. Then the iris steps forward and the composition softens, but not in a gentle way. It's the quiet of someone deciding not to leave. The aquatic notes keep everything feeling clean while the white florals, jasmine, ylang-ylang, a careful rose, layer in without cloying. This is the heart of the fragrance: powdery without being dusty, floral without being sweet. It holds for hours. The drydown is where the cedar, sandalwood, and vetiver arrive, not dramatically, but persistently. Musk and vanilla provide warmth. Patchouli adds earthiness without dirt. The fragrance doesn't disappear so much as it settles, becoming something closer to skin than to perfume. On fabric, it lingers overnight.
