Chronic Tonic arrived in 2023 as part of LAYR's City Whisperer collection. The name itself reads like a prescription, something steady you reach for when the noise outside won't stop. There's no founder anecdote attached, no manifesto. Just a blend designed to quiet the static without anaesthetizing the wearer. The citrus-spice opening, led by grapefruit and cinnamon, cuts through with a sharpness that feels almost medicinal, like something stirred into warm water on a cold morning. Rosemary and thyme weave through the first few minutes, lending an herbal greenness that keeps the sweetness in check. Cypress deepens that green quality, pulling it closer to a forest floor than a fruit basket, while raspberry adds a tart edge that reads more like resin than confection.
What's unusual here is the sheer density of the pyramid, six top notes, eight heart notes, nine base notes, and the way they refuse to settle into a single category.
