The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Amour My Love arrived in February 2013, positioned as a limited edition ahead of Valentine's Day. The name is not subtle, and it isn't trying to be. Kenzo built this fragrance around the idea of romantic euphoria, that breathless, open-handed feeling when love is new and everything in the world smells like it might go right. The brief was love, and the composition delivered: pink grapefruit, passion fruit, and red currant to open with immediacy and energy, then a floral heart that refuses to be demure. Peony, cherry blossom, lilac, rose. Warm cedar and white musk in the base to keep it intimate, body-close, wearable rather than performative. This is love as an everyday texture, not a grand gesture.
What makes the heart of Amour My Love interesting is its balance. Peony is often the blandest note in a pyramid, soft, forgettable, barely there. Here it arrives with cherry blossom, which carries a faint bitter-almond undertone that keeps the sweetness honest. Lilac adds a waxy, almost green coolness that prevents the rose from going syrupy. The result is a floral heart that smells specific, not generic. It smells like flowers you can actually identify, rather than a blur of petals. That's rarer than it should be in this category.
The evolution
The opening is the most assertive phase: bright citrus-tropical fruit, tart and juicy, the kind of smell that reads as immediate optimism. Red currant gives it a slight berry edge, passion fruit adds tropical weight. The grapefruit softens and the florals begin their slow takeover, with cherry blossom and peony taking center stage. As the scent moves into its heart, these floral notes deepen and soften against the skin. By the time the fragrance settles into its dry down, only white musk and cedar remain, close to the skin, warm, and faintly sweet. It doesn't fill a room but it does linger on fabric long after you've stopped noticing it yourself.
Cultural impact
Amour My Love presents bright, fruity florals that feel romantic and pretty without the performative weight of a heavy floral or the sharp edges of a citrus cologne. Its composition captures a delicate balance between playful charm and refined elegance, offering an approachable yet distinctive character. The fragrance occupies a space where romantic sensibility meets everyday wearability, making it versatile across different occasions and moods. It invites a sense of lightness and warmth, suggesting a feminine energy that feels both contemporary and timeless.
