The beginning
Floraïku launched What A Day! in 2021 as part of its Exclusivities collection, a line that sits apart from the brand's main catalog. The scent channels London, according to the house's own positioning, leaning into a city where black pepper and cedarwood feel less like luxury and more like weather. There's an immediacy to it from the first moment, the kind of fragrance that announces itself rather than waiting to be discovered. On skin, the opening hits with layered spice, cardamom and coriander and black pepper crowding together before any single note can claim the spotlight. Madagascan cinnamon warms the edges, and saffron adds an almost mineral thread underneath.
The composition draws from both Eastern and Western spice traditions. Cardamom, coriander, Madagascan cinnamon, black pepper, and saffron crowd the opening, an unusual density of heat that immediately sets the tone without hiding behind a single hero note. Bulgarian rose and orris root in the heart introduce a powdery, slightly soapy softness, while peach adds something almost edible underneath the spice.
The evolution
The first 15 minutes are all heat. Cardamom leads, but coriander and black pepper push forward almost immediately, creating a dense, almost smoky-spicy wall. There's no gentle ramp-up. The saffron sits underneath, golden and slightly bitter, lending weight to what could otherwise read as sharp. The opening doesn't fade so much as expand, filling the space around you rather than just sitting on skin. Around the 30-minute mark, the Bulgarian rose and orris begin to surface. The rose here isn't romantic or dewy. It's dry, almost dusty, the kind of rose that exists in old libraries or vintage cologne. Peach rounds the edges, adding just enough sweetness to keep the spices from becoming austere. This is where the composition finds its stride, the tension between floral softness and spice sharpness creating something that feels alive. By hour two, the base has taken over. Cedarwood and cypriol dominate, with the suede accord giving everything a leathery, worn-in texture. Oud is present but restrained, more as a suggestion of depth than a statement.
