The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
In 2009, Emanuel Ungaro collaborated with perfumer Nathalie Lorson. The idea was to capture the energy of being at a party, not its afterglow. Watermelon and lemon arrive first, bright and juicy, like cold fruit on a hot day. White florals rise up as the heart, a clean, cool wave of petals that fills the space. Musk and sandalwood form the base, soft and creamy, like skin warmed by the sun. The result feels immediate and playful, a fruity-floral composition that refuses to whisper. The name says it all.
What makes Ungaro Party interesting is the pairing of watermelon with aquatic florals. One note is fruity and bright, the other clean and cool, and together they create a composition that holds its own character without contradiction. They work in balance, held together by a musk base that keeps everything grounded and feminine. The sandalwood adds creaminess without heaviness, a soft warmth that extends through the wear. It's a composition that commits fully to its vision, fruity freshness meeting floral elegance in a way that feels intentional and cohesive.
The evolution
The opening hits first, watermelon bright, Amalfi lemon sharp. Cold fruit on a hot day. Thirty minutes in, the lily of the valley and lotus arrive, softening the edge into something more floral, more feminine. The watermelon doesn't disappear, it just quietens, becomes part of the background, a subtle sweetness threading through the florals. Then the sandalwood and musk settle in, warming everything up, keeping the sillage close rather than projecting outward. The drydown reveals a clean, skin-like quality, almost powdery in its softness. The transformation from fruit to floral to powder takes a full day, each stage distinct yet connected.
Cultural impact
Ungaro Party occupies a specific corner of late-2000s fragrance culture: the fruity-aquatic-floral hybrid that captured a younger spirit while maintaining the house's signature approach. The watermelon note gives it a distinctive character, a bright, summery quality that stands apart from more conventional florals. It won't be confused with anything subtle, which suits its personality perfectly.
