The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Be Trendy Look arrived in 2011 as part of Dzintars' youthful Be Trendy line, a collection that signaled a new direction for the Latvian house. Where Dzintars' heritage scents leaned into amber, pine, and the foggy Baltic coast, Look pointed somewhere brighter: fruit, florals, a little green bite. It cut with an herbal sharpness that keeps it from sliding into simple sweetness. The fragrance opens with a sunlit burst of nectarine and fig, that gentle, almost edible fruitiness that pulls you in before you notice what's underneath. Then the green creeps in, and suddenly the composition isn't so simple anymore. Chamomile adds a quiet, hay-sweet calm at the top, while lemon threads through everything like a current of bright air. The collection name says it.
What makes the structure interesting is the move from soft stone fruit to sharp narcissus. Nectarine and fig give you that gentle, sun-warmed sweetness most fruity florals live and die by, but Dzintars pulled the rug with narcissus in the heart, a flower that reads almost animalic at certain thresholds, green and slightly dirty in the best possible sense. The shift happens almost without warning, the initial brightness folding inward as the narcissus unfurls, bringing a denser, more vegetal quality to the composition.
The evolution
The first ten minutes belong to fig and nectarine, sweet but tempered by chamomile's herbal calm and a thread of lemon that keeps everything lifted. It's bright, almost edible, with a sunny quality that pulls you in immediately. Around the thirty-minute mark, the fruit recedes and narcissus steps forward, joined by neroli and bergamot. The scent goes greener, more floral, with that slightly sharp narcissus character giving it a savory edge that most fruity florals never reach. The neroli softens the transition, its orange-flower warmth meeting the narcissus somewhere in the middle, while bergamot adds a clean, peppery brightness that keeps the whole thing from settling too early. Into hour two, the rosewood and amber settle underneath. Cardamom dusts the whole thing with a warm, slightly peppery finish, and the rosewood brings a woody smoothness that softens the amber without dulling it.
Cultural impact
Be Trendy Look holds a particular place within Dzintars' catalogue, a fruity-floral that sits comfortably alongside the brand's more classical releases without trying to mimic them. The Be Trendy line, Look included, has its own distinct identity within the broader house, shaped by a brighter palette and a more youthful sensibility. Within Dzintars' own range, it's part of a sub-line that brings together fruit, florals, and a clean green edge, a combination that feels deliberate rather than accidental.
