The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
In 2012, Mathilde Laurent returned to the lily, not as an accent, but as the entire conversation. The Shimmering edition was an addendum: what if the invisible became visible? Tiny particles suspended in the bottle catch light when you shake it, shimmering as the liquid moves. The scent opens with a bright, fresh quality before the lily heart emerges. Same lily heart, same green stem drydown. The floral notes unfold gradually, revealing a delicate powderiness that settles close to the skin. As the hours pass, the green vegetal undertones become more pronounced, like stems that have been left in water overnight. The particles add a visual dimension without changing the fragrance's character.
Lily carries a complex scent profile, green, fresh, almost vegetal in its stem notes, powdery and almost waxy when the bloom takes over. Laurent builds an entire structure around it, letting the note shift across the pyramid rather than change. The Shimmering edition doesn't alter this architecture, it adds a visual layer without touching the olfactory one. The result is a fragrance that performs twice: once on the skin, once in the light.
The evolution
The opening is a brief flash of citrus, something brighter, a wink before the curtain rises. Then the lily arrives and doesn't leave. Not dramatically. It settles in quietly, the powdery floral heart taking over around the fifteen-minute mark, staying soft and close for hours. The drydown is the tell: green, vegetal, like stems left in water overnight. Six to eight hours of wear, moderate sillage, this isn't a fragrance that announces itself. It stays intimate, asking only that you lean in. The progression feels natural, inevitable even, as if the scent knows exactly where it wants to end up and takes its time getting there.
Cultural impact
The Shimmering edition arrived in 2012 as a limited release, a summer companion to the original Baiser Volé. Suspended particles drift within the bottle, catching light when you shake it. The scent focuses on a single flower, explored with care and restraint. Each application becomes a visual moment before the fragrance settles close to the skin. This is a fragrance for those who appreciate the quiet details, the private pleasures that require no announcement.
