When Michel Almairac and Karine Vinchon-Spehner approached the 2021 composition, their brief mirrored that philosophy: create a fragrance where every material justifies its presence. Rather than designing for impact, they structured the work in three movements, each building on the last with deliberate intent. The perfumers chose materials that hold their shape rather than morphing into something different over time.
The note selection reflects a specific intent: bright enough to engage, restrained enough to endure. Mandarin and bergamot provide immediate accessibility, while green apple and patchouli create a middle ground that avoids both sweetness and aggression. The oud in the base is not the heavy, resinous type found in stronger oud fragrances; it operates as a grounding element rather than a centerpiece. Vanilla and ambroxan round the composition by adding warmth that remains close to the skin rather than projecting outward.
The evolution
The opening sets a bright, citrus-driven tone with mandarin orange and bergamot establishing immediate freshness. Pink pepper punctuates the citrus with a quick spicy accent that fades cleanly as the heart takes hold. In the middle phase, green apple and patchouli shift the composition toward cooler, earthier territory, with the apple lending a tart crispness and the patchouli pulling toward deeper, woodier weight. Saffron adds a quiet exotic quality that threads through without announcing itself. The drydown settles into oud and vanilla, where the oud anchors the composition with smoky depth and vanilla softens the transition, allowing ambroxan to extend the presence in a clean, understated way.
