The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Oud Du Jour arrived in 2016, a Masters-level composition that threads oud through fruit, florals, and warm woods. The challenge was integrating this precious material in a way that keeps all of it, losing none of it. Rich, intense oud becomes part of a larger harmonic structure rather than standing alone, its depth balanced against bright fruit notes and soft floral layers. Warm woods round out the composition, preventing any single element from overwhelming the rest. The result is a fragrance where fruity sweetness, delicate florals, and woody warmth each play their role while oud remains the heart of the composition.
What makes Oud Du Jour interesting is not the oud itself, it is the structure around it. Dried plum and rose sit in the heart, giving the composition a jammy darkness that could easily tip into heaviness. The incense adds smoke without the church-candle cliche. The top notes, saffron, raspberry, pink pepper, create a bright, almost sparkling opening that fades into something warmer and more intimate.
The evolution
The opening is quick and bright. Saffron metallic spice arrives first, followed immediately by raspberry sweet tart fruitiness. Pink pepper adds a subtle lift. The top notes begin to recede as the heart takes over, dried plum emerges as the dominant note, dark and jammy, supported by rose and a whisper of incense. The transition is smooth, not dramatic. The oud announces itself slowly, warming the entire composition from within. Black amber adds resinous sweetness. Patchouli grounds it with earth. Guaiac wood introduces a smoky, slightly medicinal quality that keeps the drydown from becoming too soft. The fragrance settles into something intimate and close, present on the skin without projecting aggressively, the oud and guaiac wood creating a lingering warmth that others will notice only if they lean in.
Cultural impact
Oud is a precious material derived from agarwood, and its rich, intense character has made it a sought-after ingredient in fine perfumery. In Oud Du Jour, the oud takes its place within a carefully constructed composition that threads it through fruit, florals, and warm woods. Saffron, raspberry, and pink pepper create bright opening notes, while dried plum and rose form a jammy, dark heart. Incense adds smoky depth without heaviness, and the base brings warm woods, earth, and resinous sweetness.
