The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
BDK Parfums invited perfumer Camille Leguay to build a fragrance around jasmine, letting it take the lead role in the composition. From there, she constructed the surrounding narrative, layering woods and resins to give the jasmine something to lean against. A touch of smoke enters the picture, lingering at the edges like a storm building on the horizon. The overall effect captures something dense and atmospheric, the kind of air that feels heavy before weather shifts. Each element supports the jasmine rather than competing with it, creating a composition where the floral heart remains central while the surrounding materials add depth and structure.
The heart of Wood Jasmin brings together Egyptian jasmine absolute and Turkish rose, creating a floral core that feels alive rather than static. The jasmine doesn't simply sit atop the composition; it weaves through the other materials, while the rose adds a structural quality that keeps the florals from becoming too heavy or diffuse. Below this blooming center, Indonesian patchouli and incense form a grounding base that anchors the fragrance to something earthy and resinous.
The evolution
The opening introduces plum and pear in a soft, restrained manner, almost tentative before the fuller notes arrive. Within minutes, jasmine takes command and the fruity elements dissolve into the growing warmth of the composition. This heart phase persists for hours, the jasmine indolic and present, the rose lending structure beneath it. As the florals begin to recede, patchouli and vanilla build a base that sets up the next stage of wear. The drydown strips things back, the jasmine retreating as smoke and incense move forward, Cypriol oil's earthy bitterness threading through the lingering sweetness of vanilla. The longevity registers as substantial, staying present on skin for an extended duration without requiring reapplication.
Cultural impact
Wood Jasmin occupies a distinctive position in the oriental floral category, offering something that moves beyond typical jasmine-forward compositions. Since its launch, it has attracted wearers seeking a jasmine that doesn't conform to traditional expectations, with the indolic character and herbal undertones creating a scent that demands attention. The combination of thick, assertive jasmine with woody and resinous materials gives the fragrance a unique profile that stands apart from more conventional interpretations of the genre.
