Heritage
A house, in its own words
The story of BDK Parfums begins long before its official founding. Founder David Benedek grew up immersed in the world of fragrance. His grandparents, who fled from Transylvania, opened their first perfumery in Paris in the 1950s, becoming one of the first authorized retailers for iconic brands like Christian Dior and Worth. They established a successful boutique on the corner of Rue Royale and Rue Saint-Honoré, passing their deep passion for scent down through the generations. This familial inheritance shaped David's path. After studying at the French Institute of Fashion, he decided against joining a large conglomerate and instead chose to build something of his own. In 2016, at just 26 years old, he launched BDK Parfums from his family's apartment. He started with the 'Collection Parisienne', a series of scents that act as an olfactory love letter to his home city, and the brand quickly gained a following for its sophisticated yet approachable creations.
At its heart, BDK Parfums is about storytelling. David Benedek doesn't just create perfumes; he creates characters and narratives. Each fragrance is imagined as a complete story, with its own mood, setting, and personality. The house's philosophy centers on creative freedom, giving perfumers the space to interpret a brief with their own unique signature. This approach results in perfumes that feel both personal and universal. The brand's creative process often starts with a single, high-quality raw material, which becomes the central 'word' in an olfactory sentence. From there, the scent is built out to evoke a specific fantasy or memory. It's a very deliberate and thoughtful approach that prioritizes artistic expression over chasing trends, resulting in a cohesive and confident collection.
