BDK Parfums, the Parisian house founded in 2016 by David Benedek, approaches each fragrance like a chapter in a larger library of olfactory stories. Villa Néroli is their chapter on the Mediterranean coast. Perfumer Alexandra Carlin, working with Symrise, composed this fragrance in 2022 as part of the Collection Azur. The brief was simple on paper: take neroli and orange blossom, make them last, make them warm, make them feel like an island you don't want to leave. What emerged is a fragrance that doesn't perform the usual freshness trick. It goes somewhere else entirely. The name itself is the story. Villa Néroli isn't a place you can book a room in.
What makes Villa Néroli work is the decision to treat white florals as the main event, not the supporting cast. Most fragrances built around neroli use it as a brightener, a way to open cleanly before moving on to something else. Alexandra Carlin went the other direction.
