The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Monday Rose arrived in 2024 as part of Banana Republic's Collezione Riservata collection. Christelle Laprade crafted it with a clear premise: a rose fragrance for everyday moments, not just special occasions. The name is the concept. Bright citrus and lychee open the composition, unfolding over a polished floral heart. Warm amberwood and soft musk anchor the scent, providing a presence that carries through a full day. The layering creates a fragrance that feels both structured and effortless, modern in its execution yet grounded in classic perfumery principles.
A tart rhubarb jam note introduces unexpected complexity to the opening. It sharpens the bergamot and grapefruit, while adding a subtle sweetness that softens the rose that follows. Lychee brings tropical sweetness, preventing the composition from becoming a conventional rose structure. Geranium and lily of the valley round out the heart, their green and dewy qualities balancing the floral notes. Peony adds fullness without sweetness, giving the rose volume without heaviness.
The evolution
The opening hits bright and tart. Bergamot, grapefruit, and lychee create a burst of morning energy before the florals take over. The heart is where Monday Rose earns its name. Rose unfurls fluid and modern, supported by geranium's green edge and lily of the valley's clean dewy quality. Peony adds fullness without sweetness, giving the floral heart presence and volume. The drydown settles into warmth. Amberwood provides a smooth woody foundation, caramel adds quiet sweetness, and musk creates a close, skin-like presence. Crystallised moss gives the base an earthy depth that keeps it from becoming purely feminine. On fabric, the base notes can carry into the next day.
Cultural impact
Monday Rose joins Banana Republic's Collezione Riservata collection, a line of elevated fragrances that mirror the brand's emphasis on modern elegance. The 2024 release offers a rose-forward scent that works for everyday wear without sacrificing sophistication. It's an option for those who want something polished and present, avoiding the overly performative quality that can sometimes accompany rose fragrances.
