Why it exists.
The beginning
Miko is a collaboration between Aromag and French perfumer Florian Gallo, released in 2024 as part of the house's growing catalog of gender-neutral compositions. The name itself, short and quiet, mirrors the scent's register. Aromag's house language prizes restraint and clarity, and Miko reads as a study in what gets left out, not what gets piled on. As a citrus-aromatic cologne, the composition draws on Mediterranean herbs: pine needle, clary sage, petitgrain, and a generous layer of bitter orange and mandarin in the opening. What makes Miko feel considered rather than simple is the restraint applied to its aromatic palette. Each note seems to earn its place, and the gaps between them feel intentional.
What's worth noticing in the structure is the deliberate split between top-note brightness and base-note depth. Eight ingredients handle the opening, a generous spread of citrus and aromatic herbs, while the base is anchored by just five materials, including patchouli and the musks Helvetolide and Muscenone. The musks do the heavy lifting in the drydown, wrapping vetiver and cabreuva into a soft haze that sits close to the skin.
The evolution
The opening is all surface. Pine needle and bitter orange hit first, sharp and almost green, like peeling a mandarin over rosemary stems. Petitgrain and clary sage sharpen it further, a cologne that announces itself the way a splash of cold water does. The citrus settles relatively quickly, and neroli takes the lead. That transition is where Miko becomes something softer and more human. Orange blossom and jasmine sambac arrive not as a bouquet but as a single breath of warm air across the composition, floral without weight. As the herbs recede, the base starts its quiet work. Cabreuva brings a soft woodiness, neither smoky nor dry, a material that adds roundness without imposing its own character. Patchouli shows up dark and damp, but only a trace, held in check by the musks underneath.
