The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Alice & Peter arrived not with a single fragrance but with five, each one a character study in sweetness. Created by Gerald Ghislain and Magali Sénéquier, the duo behind Histoires de Parfums, the line treated perfume as storytelling, drawing its cast from whimsy and imagination. Cheery Cherry was the bright one. The collection offered a range of personalities, and this fragrance embodied joy, uncomplicated and immediate, the scent of saying yes to dessert first and apologizing to no one. There is an inherent confidence in choosing unabashed sweetness, and this fragrance wears that confidence like a signature.
What makes Cheery Cherry distinctive isn't complexity, it's commitment to a single idea executed with precision. The top tier layers sour cherry with blackcurrant and bergamot, creating a tartness that prevents the sweetness from cloying. The heart multiplies the fruit without diluting it: apricot, peach, red berries, rose, and lilac in a bouquet that stays firmly in the edible register. The base, caramel, vanilla, raspberry, strawberry, white musk, is where the fragrance earns its gourmand label. This isn't a sophisticated composition. It's a delicious one.
The evolution
The opening is immediate and confident: sour cherry that's almost effervescent, blackcurrant adding depth without darkness, bergamot providing just enough citrus to keep everything bright. Within minutes, the florals arrive, lilac and freesia mostly, with rose and peach hovering in the background, and the composition shifts from bright to warm. The drydown belongs entirely to the caramel and vanilla, strawberry and raspberry lending fruit without tartness. White musk lingers closest to skin as everything else fades, creating a soft whisper of sweetness that settles into the warmth of the wearer's own skin chemistry, intimate and familiar.
Cultural impact
Cheery Cherry sits squarely in the tradition of fragrances designed to smell like their names, embracing the playful spirit of confectionery-inspired perfumery. Within its collection, it occupies the brightest and most immediately joyful position, a celebration of uncomplicated happiness. The approach of launching multiple fragrances together, each exploring a different facet of sweetness, offered something for every mood and moment. There is something deeply appealing about a fragrance that refuses to apologize for being exactly what it is.
