The beginning
Blood Spell arrived in 2022 as part of Wallachian Perfumes' catalog, composed by Arturetto Landi. The house frames each release as a wearable incantation, and this one is no exception: born under what the brand calls a soulmates reunion spell, the composition is meant to awaken attraction in whoever wears it. The concept sits at the center of how the brand presents itself, treating fragrance as a vessel for magic. Blood Spell carries that thesis into a fruity, floral territory where the sweetness does most of the talking and the supposed enchantment is delivered through sheer olfactory charm rather than any overt occult signaling.
What makes Blood Spell unusual inside the Wallachian catalog is its sweetness. The opening stacks nine distinct top notes, a genuinely ambitious pyramid, before collapsing into a streamlined powdery heart. Pineapple, mango, peach, and fig do the loud work up top, supported by green tea, violet leaf, and bergamot that keep the fruit from tipping into syrup. Once that initial burst passes, heliotrope, iris, and jasmine step in to soften and blur the edges, trading the abundance of the opening for something more focused and intimate.
The evolution
The first ten minutes are chaos in the best sense: pineapple, mango, peach, and fig all jostling for position alongside green tea and violet leaf, with bergamot threading through like a bright wire. There's a tropical juice quality that borders on cocktail territory, almost like a Bellini left out under a fig tree. After about thirty minutes the fruit recedes and the heliotrope arrives, powdery and almond-sweet, joined by iris and jasmine that read more skin-care-counter than garden. The white floral phase is the bridge. Then the base takes over: vanilla and sandalwood settle in, Sumatran patchouli adds earth beneath, and the ambertonic accord gives a quinine bitterness that prevents the whole thing from collapsing into straight sugar. The transition between phases is one of Blood Spell's real pleasures.
