A house, in its own words
The brand's mythology traces back to a singular origin story: fragrance formulas reportedly discovered roughly 450 years ago in a Romanian castle linked to Vlad III Dracula, ruler of Wallachia. According to the brand's narrative, these recipes were originally commissioned at the request of the Voivode himself. The house translates this legend into a modern perfume line, channeling Wallachian herbalism, apothecary traditions, and folk magic into wearable form. Whether the historical claim is literal or allegorical, it anchors the brand firmly in the geographic and cultural territory of southern Romania. Wallachia itself carries a name rooted in the medieval Slavic term for a land of forests and rolling hills, a region long associated with herbal knowledge and folk healing. The house positions itself as a contemporary vessel for those inherited practices, recasting them through the language of niche perfumery. The brand emerged publicly in the early 2020s, releasing foundational scents including Vampira, Blood Spell, and Antidote in 2022, followed by APHRODISIAC and MIRIFICUS in 2024. Wallachian Perfumes treats fragrance as a vessel for spellcraft. Each composition is conceived not simply as a scent but as an olfactory incantation, carrying with it what the brand describes as an ancient spell intended to awaken hidden capacities in the wearer. The creative direction resists easy categorization. Compositions move into ambiguous territory where floral notes behave strangely, woods refuse to behave as woods, and the boundary between skin, sweat, and vapor dissolves. The Ektoplasma release, described as an illusion of skin and vapor at once, exemplifies this refusal to settle into conventional genre. The house draws on Romanian folklore, vampire mythology, and a specifically Wallachian sense of the uncanny: a world where the living, the dead, and the dreaming share the same kitchen table. There is little interest in pandering to mainstream tastes. Instead, the philosophy leans toward provocation, mystery, and the idea that perfume can function as a protective or transformative charm. The wearer is invited to participate in a story older than the brand itself.
