The beginning
Flowerbomb Holiday Edition 2017 is a limited collector's release from Viktor&Rolf, launched in 2017 as a seasonal edition that dresses the same explosive floral DNA in a holiday collector's bottle. The composition was developed by a team of perfumers including Olivier Polge, Domitille Michalon Bertier, Carlos Benaïm, and Dominique Ropion, four names whose individual work has shaped modern fragrance in distinct and lasting ways. Viktor&Rolf approached the scent as an idea: flowers as ammunition, beauty as something with force. The result is a bomb-shaped flacon that wraps that conceptual playfulness in something tactile and seasonal, a gift object as much as a fragrance.
What makes the Flowerbomb Holiday Edition interesting is less the holiday packaging and more the structural decision underneath. The opening pairs tea and osmanthus against bergamot, an unusual pairing that brings a tannic, almost steeped quality to what could have been a simple citrus intro. That tea note is the load-bearing wall. Without it, the jasmine-orange blossom-rose heart would collapse into sweetness. With it, the florals land with gravity.
The evolution
The first fifteen minutes are bergamot and tea, bright and slightly bitter, the kind of opening that makes you check your wrist twice. Then jasmine and orange blossom flood in, dense and creamy, with freesia cutting through to keep the sweetness from going flat. Rose sits underneath, velvet over the powder. The heart holds for a couple of hours, warm and close. Around the third hour, the white florals recede and patchouli surfaces, earthy and a little green, offering a grounding counterweight to the sweetness that came before. The musk settles in, quiet and warm, hugging the skin through the rest of the wear. The drydown is intimate rather than projecting, a soft powdery veil that sits close rather than broadcasting. The next morning, a trace of powdery musk clings to scarves and coat collars, offering one last reminder of the wear. Not loud. Just there.

The Flowerbomb line sits comfortably in the sweet-floral mainstream, offering a dense and creamy floral gourmand that has become a familiar reference for an entire category of scent.
