The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Fabrice Pellegrin built Tous Garden Edition around the idea of spring arriving all at once, not gradually. The official copy describes it as inspired by "the bursting of the season in wooded surroundings," and Pellegrin took that reference seriously, layering green and woody elements beneath the florals rather than letting the composition float into abstraction. The launch arrived at a moment when fruity-fresh florals dominated the mass-market landscape, and Tous positioned this as something a little more structured beneath the sweetness.
The composition's most interesting move is how it handles the floral heart. Rather than stacking multiple flowers into a generic bouquet, Pellegrin lets peony anchor the middle, a note that reads lush and almost creamy without tipping into indolic territory, then loops wisteria around it like a vine. The wisteria adds a green, slightly sweet twist that keeps the garden feeling literal rather than abstract. It's a small decision that gives this particular floral-fresh fragrance its own character.
The evolution
The opening hits fast, raspberry and bergamot arrive together, with aquatic notes adding a cool, watery undertone that keeps the fruit from feeling too sweet. Tangerine and pink pepper linger at the edges, adding a slight tartness that prevents the whole thing from reading as dessert. By the time you reach your wrist to smell it again, the florals have already begun their entrance. The peony and wild rose arrive without ceremony, settling in alongside jasmine and wisteria in a heart that feels abundant but never heavy. The transition into the drydown is where the composition earns its woodland billing. Heliotrope and vanilla create a soft, powdery warmth, but sandalwood and cedar emerge from beneath, grounding the florals in something woodier and more honest, a reminder that this garden has roots. Musk keeps everything intimate.
Cultural impact
Garden Edition occupies a particular corner of the mass-market floral landscape: bright enough to feel youthful, structured enough to avoid the generic. In a category crowded with fruity florals, the wisteria-peony combination and the deliberate softness of the woody base give it its own character. The Spanish heritage adds a warmth and approachability that reads differently than French-bred mass-market florals. It's not a statement fragrance, it's a daily pleasure, the kind that feels like a gift rather than a declaration.
