Oud Wasat

The note structure is unusual in how it builds. Bergamot and rose open the composition with a brightness that precedes the darker elements. Incense arrives to darken the mood, shifting the composition toward warmth and depth. Heliotrope becomes the quiet argument here, its powdery, slightly sweet character changing how the oud reads. It's not oud as statement, it's oud as atmosphere. Cypriol adds an earthy undertone that grounds the sweetness without competing with it.

The evolution

Bergamot arrives clean and sharp. Grapefruit adds a slightly bitter edge, while geranium and rose give it a floral lift. This is the bright phase, the introduction that says little about what follows. Twenty minutes in, the incense takes over. It's not smoke exactly, more like the air in a room where something has been burning. Juniper berries add a needle-sharp quality, cardamom brings warmth, and the cedar arrives with its own woodiness, stacking beneath the oud that's beginning to surface. This is the heart phase: complex, layered, slightly confrontational. Then the drydown. The oud finally arrives properly, not aggressive, but deep and resinous, warmed by amber, softened by heliotrope's powder, extended by sandalwood and patchouli. The musk anchors everything. This phase lasts for hours, its presence on skin remaining constant and enveloping.
