Why it exists.
The beginning
Diwan Gourmand is the 2025 gourmand chapter of The Spirit of Dubai's Diwan lineage, stepping away from the original Diwan's oud-and-incense architecture. Where that first Diwan spoke in the language of frankincense and worship, this one leans into sugar and smoke, an after-ritual mood where dates split open and the air still holds warmth from a room that recently emptied. Released as part of the Accord Collection in 2025, it stretches the brand's Middle Eastern register into richer, more confectionary territory. The oud backbone remains intact, recognizable and deliberate, holding the sweetness in place rather than letting it float off. The composition feels deliberate from the first spritz, reading as a conversation between two distinct worlds that share a single room.
The interesting gamble here is layering genuine smoke and leather underneath confectionery notes like cocoa, chocolate, and tonka. The opening sweetness eventually gives way as the fir balsam and oud start dragging the composition toward something closer to woodsmoke than bakery. Pink pepper and benzoin act as the hinge, keeping the sweetness from collapsing into pure gourmand territory and maintaining tension throughout the wear. The dates in the heart deserve attention too. They're not there for novelty.
The evolution
The opening is almost edible. Cocoa, chocolate, and plum arrive together with blackcurrant lending a dark fruit edge. Smoke curls in underneath, more hearth than cigarette. Within fifteen minutes, the heart takes over. Rose shows up briefly, then cinnamon and dates pull the temperature up. Benzoin and pink pepper add warmth without sharp spice. Tonka softens everything. By the second hour, the smoke has thickened and merged with the fir balsam into something resinous. The leather in the base starts to surface, brushed suede rather than cracked hide. Oud and patchouli ground the structure. Cedarwood and vetiver keep it from going too sweet. The drydown is amber, vanilla, and musk sitting on top of leather and cedarwood, still projecting at six hours. The next morning, the fabric smells like dried fruit and woodsmoke.

The release extends the brand's identity into dessert territory without abandoning the resin backbone the brand trades on. The composition has resonated with wearers who appreciate the cocoa-and-dates accord as nostalgic rather than novelty, a familiar sweetness tethered to something weightier. The oud presence keeps it grounded, preventing the confectionery elements from tipping into pure sugar.
