The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Walaa means fondness. The name arrives first, and it tells you exactly what this fragrance is trying to say. Swiss Arabian's Love Collection launched this scent in 2020 under perfumer Miroslav Petkov, building from the idea that deep love engulfs you, and that a fragrance can capture that feeling. The composition balances light and warmth, making it approachable for everyday wear while maintaining depth.
Petkov structured Walaa as a traditional fougère, which means lavender and geranium anchor the opening, a classic pairing that dates back to the 19th century and carries an inherent cleanliness. But he didn't stop there. The addition of mandarin orange and bergamot gives the top a sharp, immediate brightness that prevents the lavender from reading as soapy or dated. The citrus notes create an uplifting quality that lifts the herbal foundation, while the geranium adds a subtle green, rose-like nuance that rounds out the edges.
The evolution
The opening hits with that classic fougère tension, lavender and geranium give the top a clean, slightly herbaceous edge, while mandarin orange arrives bright and sweet enough to cut through. Bergamot adds refinement. The citrus doesn't linger. Within thirty minutes, the heart takes over: jasmine and hedione bring a translucent floral quality, almost solar, while coriander and violet introduce a powdery spice that deepens without weight. Cinnamon adds warmth, but it's restrained, more presence than punch. By the second hour, the drydown establishes itself. Amberwood and cedar form a smooth, slightly sweet woody base. Fir balsam keeps it grounded with a subtle evergreen note. Musk and ambroxan extend the wear significantly. The sillage remains moderate, comfortable for office settings while still noticeable to those nearby.
Cultural impact
Walaa brings together lavender, more commonly associated with European fine fragrances, alongside citrus notes that create an approachable blend. Lavender offers a clean, slightly sweet floral quality that feels familiar yet refined, while citrus adds brightness that lifts the overall composition. This combination makes the fragrance accessible to those who appreciate classic perfumery while offering something with modern appeal.
