The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Thé Matcha arrived in 2023, designed by perfumer Pierre Flores. The Japanese green tea powder carries centuries of ritual. The composition features green tea leading the composition, supported by complementary notes that add softness and floral nuance. The fragrance opens with the characteristic aroma of matcha, bringing its distinctive green, slightly powdery quality that feels both fresh and warm. Supporting elements round out the profile without overwhelming the central green tea note. The overall effect is a fragrance centered on the matcha note, presented in a way that feels refined and composed.
Matcha sits at an interesting crossroads in fragrance: it's associated with ceremonial intensity, but the note itself is more subtle than people expect. The green tea accord in Thé Matcha captures the drink's essence, drawing out its characteristic profile. Rose adds a floral lift that makes the green tea feel familiar rather than foreign. Cashmere wood contributes to the composition, adding warmth and depth. The whole composition uses green tea as a starting point, inviting exploration of its nuances.
The evolution
The opening hits bright. Bergamot and citron arrive together, citrusy and clean, with cardamom adding a whisper of spice that adds dimension to the citrus. That citrus phase does the work of making the green tea feel intentional rather than accidental. The heart arrives gradually. Matcha emerges as a quiet green presence, softened by rose into something more approachable than the raw note. Cashmere wood fills the middle registers, adding warmth without weight. By the drydown, the citrus is gone entirely. What remains is a powdery warmth, white amber and musk sitting close to the skin, with sandalwood lending a creamy finish that extends the wear. The fragrance settles into a skin presence that lingers intimately.
Cultural impact
Green tea has become a significant note in Western perfumery, valued for its clean, minimalist character. The note draws from Japanese tea traditions, bringing a sense of mindfulness and wellness to fragrance. Thé Matcha is part of an ongoing interest in single-note fragrances, using green tea as a central element. Solinotes' approach to this fragrance emphasizes the matcha note, presenting it as a wearable, versatile option that offers something for those who appreciate subtlety.
