Here they balance each other out, smoke softening the almond's sweetness while the almond keeps the smoke from reading as purely atmospheric. The ylang-ylang adds a creamy, almost tropical floral quality that provides lift in a composition that could otherwise close in on itself. Oud anchors the base. Musk provides depth and warmth that lingers close to the skin.

The evolution

Smoke arrives assertive and immediate, carrying a faint char. The almond threads something sweet through the dark, making the smoke more interesting to breathe. Ylang-ylang adds a floral quality in the opening minutes that keeps the scent from feeling purely atmospheric. The heart phase brings deeper florals. Champaca appears, warmer and more resinous, carrying a honeyed richness that deepens the sweetness already present. Coffee grounds the composition with something almost bitter, keeping the florals from becoming soft. The smoke recedes, taking up less of the oxygen in the room while remaining the thing you remember. Oud becomes more textured. The drydown is where House Of The Dragon settles into what it actually is. The smoke fades into something cleaner, more animalic. Oud lingers longest, warm, resinous, almost dusty on skin warmed by the body beneath it.
